A NOTE FROM SCARBOROUGH RENAISSANCE FESTIVAL
SCARBOROUGH 2020 SEASON CANCELLED
We were truly hopeful that the COVID-19 situation would subside in time for us to open with the adjusted 6-week schedule previously announced. However, due to the rapidly evolving COVID-19 situation and the heightened recommendations from the CDC and local officials, Scarborough Renaissance Festival® has cancelled our 2020 season to ensure the health and safety of our staff, employees, participants, patrons and community. We are extremely disappointed that our 2020 season is cancelled but plan to be back in 2021 bigger and better than ever to celebrate our 40th season!
STEP INTO A NEW, OLD WORLD RIGHT HERE IN ELLIS COUNTY
Have you ever wished you could step back in time and experience merriment, folklore and fun? Scarborough Renaissance Festival is the perfect place to disconnect from the real world and have a fun filled day with family and friends.
“I remember the first time I visited Scarborough Faire back in 2006. My best friend took me to the festival where her dad worked and I was instantly hooked!”
I was mesmerised by Queen Margaret, the fairies, the costumes worn by faire goers; all of it just enchanted me. Visiting the festival every year since then has allowed me to meet so many loving people who have become lifelong friends. It’s a judgment free and carefree place, where you can express yourself while frolicking through the grounds.
If you’ve never visited Scarborough Renaissance Festival I highly suggest you do this season! It’s honestly fun for all ages, and there’s something for everyone to enjoy. I suggest getting to the festival early for good parking, starting your day early insures that you and your family will see a ton of shows and get the full experience. Be sure to wear comfy shoes, dress light and stay hydrated! When you arrive, there will be a fun gathering outside the gates before they start allowing guests in. Keep an eye out for certain villagers selling maps with showtime info! This will help you stay on schedule and not get lost!

My favorite show to kickoff the day is the Scottish Court with Queen Margaret at 10:30 am at the Olde Chess Field in Holly Field. Without giving you too many details, this show will have you laughing and engaged so you’ll want to make sure you don’t miss it. After the show ends I head down to West Market road to Rose & Crown Restaurant, it’s the only sit down full service restaurant and bar at the festival which makes it perfect to fill up on incredible food, hydrate with a brew or water of course and stay out of the sun for a bit.
For the little ones, the must see shows that you don’t want to miss out on are the Children’s Knighting and Mermaids and Fae Foillies. These will help your kids stay engaged and help them feel even more of the magic! The shows that are fun for all ages are Classics like Don Juan and Migel, Clash of Champions, The Fire Whip Show, Harmless Danger Juggling Show and of course the Joust with the Noble Cause Knights. For adults who don’t have little ones, the beer and wine tastings are a lot of fun and some hilarious shows to see are Iris & Rose and Arthur Greenleaf Holmes.

The festival shows and entertainment are really organized so while you’re walking to the next show or on your way to get food you’ll be able to watch amazingly talented bands and musicians perform so the entertainment never stops. There’s nonstop merriment throughout the day so you’ll never feel bored. There will be three Scottish Bagpipe bands playing this year which is always a fan favorite! In addition to the fantastic entertainment, Scarborough Renaissance Festival is a shoppers dream! More than 200 shoppes with everything from blown glass, to jewelry and incredible clothing to wooden mugs to metal works and more can be found throughout the Festival. There are also artisans demonstrating authentic crafts such glass blowing, stone carving, candle making and leatherworks among others. It is amazing to watch & learn from these extraordinary artisans.

One thing I love about this festival is that the actors walking around are so interactive, they really help keep the fantasy and magic alive. Everywhere you turn there is something new to see, hear, taste and smell. Your senses will come alive. Come celebrate its 40th anniversary and experience the magic. As the old song goes, “Are you going to Scarborough Faire?”
