THINGS MAY NOT FEEL THE SAME RIGHT NOW, BUT OUR HISTORY AND FUTURE CELEBRATIONS WILL SHINE BRIGHT!
Here in Ennis we know how to have a good time! As the temperature gets warmer and the grass, turns green we are gearing up for our vibrant festival season beginning with celebrations focused on wildflowers and Czech heritage.
Throughout the month of April, visitors flock to Ennis to take in the beauty of 40 miles of mapped driving trails featuring the blue seas of the Texas state flower, the bluebonnet. To quote one of our locals, “bluebonnets are God’s way of painting the earth and he sure picked a nice place to paint.” Downtown is bustling all month long with visitors but the celebration really happens in April during the Ennis Bluebonnet Trails Festival. The event is three full days of high-end shopping vendors, kids activities, delicious food, wine tasting, beer garden and incredible live music.
“This event continues to grow and is an event both locals and visitors mark on their calendar a year in advance.”
Next up is The National Polka Festival, a celebration of Czech heritage with 54 years of history and tradition. This unique family festival has something for all ages…king and queen dance contest, a festive parade through the heart of downtown, unique arts and crafts, PolkaFest 5k run, authentic Czech food (including those delicious kolaches), costumed dancers, live Polka bands at authentic Czech dance halls, and more!
“In addition to the parade downtown, guests can also find the Pivo (Beer) Pavilion, which is a covered area in downtown where people can enjoy a cold beer while dancing and singing along with a variety of Polka bands, along with plenty of shopping and food!”
Other festivals include Blues on Main, Ennis Freedom Fest, Autumn Daze and Lights of Ennis. This year we are also launching the Ennis Bluebonnet Market, an open air market on North Dallas St featuring fresh produce, handmade goods and hometown style Saturday mornings from April through October. Saturday Mornings at Minnie will be returning with free, family- friendly programming every Saturday from June through October.
Ennis is known for its downtown festivals and events all year long, it is part of what makes us the home of the Bluebonnet Spirit of Texas! These celebrations help bring people together in our historic downtown, attracting tourists and providing unique experiences for our local community.
