Ennis Regional Medical Center
Now Offers Advanced 3D Mammography Digital Imaging
New imaging system provides more accurate screening and more comfortable experience with low-dose radiation exposure
Ennis Regional Medical Center now offers 3D mammography, the best technology for early detection of breast cancer, which is critical to more effective treatment. The hospital’s new GE Senographe Pristina™ system provides more accurate detection and a more comfortable experience.
“With breast cancer, we know that early detection saves lives, and the best technology for early detection is 3D mammography,” said Doug Holzbog, Market CEO for Ennis Regional Medical Center. “We are thrilled to add this tool to our digital imaging capabilities and believe this upgrade in technology will best serve the Ennis area and the patients that come to us for these essential screenings.”
One in eight women will be diagnosed with breast cancer, heightening the importance of mammograms and early detection. But as essential as mammograms are, they are not always a pleasant experience. Ennis Regional’s advanced 3D mammography system aims to make screenings more comfortable with simplified positioning, better compression, and most importantly, better detection.
The Senographe Pristina™ reduces pain and anxiety during the exam with features like rounded corners, a thinner image detector, and comfortable armrests. The 3D exam captures multiple low-dose images at different angles, creating a detailed picture of the breast. Using a low-dose x-ray sweep (the lowest of any 3D mammography technology), the system captures clear, sharp images with minimal motion blur. This allows radiologists to examine breast tissue layer by layer, improving detection accuracy.
“With a more comfortable experience, women are more likely to keep up with their scheduled screenings,” said Jaime Choate, Director of Imaging at Ennis Regional. “And that’s important, because a 3D mammogram can detect tiny, early-stage cancers, and early detection means earlier, more effective treatment. The higher accuracy of 3D mammograms also leads to fewer false positives and fewer return visits to the doctor.”
Ennis Regional provides comprehensive breast care, including 3D mammography, breast ultrasounds, and image-guided biopsies.
Mammograms are recommended every two years for women at average risk for breast cancer and age 40 to 74. To make an appointment today, speak with your primary care provider or call Ennis Regional Medical Center at 469.256.2410.
