TEXAS TALENT Richard Schmidt is a fourth-generation Texan and a talented jewelry designer based in the scenic countryside of Fayette County. Richard designs and makes jewelry in his two studios which are located in Round Top and La Grange. Known for his signature handmade hammered silver cuffs, Richard’s work also includes pendants, rings, and bracelets, characterized by a rustic and artistic style.
A FAMILY AFFAIR Richard’s journey began with an art minor specializing in metals at Texas State University. He returned to Fayette County in 1994 with his family to refine his jewelry making skills while working alongside his father. Largely self-taught, Richard has been crafting jewelry for over 30 years. A cornerstone of his work is his family’s involvement with his wife, Janet, managing the business; his daughter, Lauren, overseeing photography and social media; and his son, Tyler, designing and creating alongside him since 2014.
Handcrafted jewelry designs with modern style and rugged spirit, Richard’s pieces are stories told in metals and semi-precious stones. Richard works primarily with silver and gold and with a distinctive aesthetic of hammered and oxidized finishes. His soulfoul designs often incorporate turquoise, along with mother-of-pearl, spiny oyster, and diamonds; reflecting his appreciation for unique stones. Inspiration for his creations comes from his faith, daily life, and the beauty of Texas and the Southwest. In particular, he draws creative energy from Santa Fe, New Mexico. The region’s vibrant art, landscapes, and rich culture play into his creativity and design.

RICHARD SCHMIDT GALLERY + STUDIO One of Richard’s main studios and retail spaces is in Round Top, Texas, where there is a hub of activity during the renowned antique and design shows held three times annually. These events have played a vital role in expanding his business and introducing his work to a wider audience. THE SCHMIDT FOREVER HOME… A PLACE TO GATHER
Richard and Janet spent about three years designing, collecting and building their current home in Round Top, Texas. After a few years of searching, they found the perfect piece of property to build
their forever home. Once again, their personal style permeates throughout the property. A warm welcome awaits with inspiration and design elements from their love of Texas, a little touch of Old
World…and the great Southwest. The result is a clean-lined modern house nestled in the woods. The Schmidts love to entertain! They enjoy spending time with friends and family around their dining table that seats 14. When designing their Round Top retreat, they made sure there was an inviting aesthetic and plenty of room for gathering and rich conversation.
